It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cecilia Garcia, known by many as Emilia Garcia, on March 23, 2025, in Denver, Colorado at the age of 79.
Cecilia was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Emilia Garcia. Tragically, her mother passed away when Cecilia was just a newborn. She was lovingly adopted by Felix and Mercedes Garcia de Ibarra of El Paso, Texas. Sadly, her adoptive parents also passed away during her teenage years, leaving her to be raised by the compassionate nuns of San Juan Catholic School, where she completed her education and graduated from the 8th grade.
Cecilia began her career with various factory jobs in El Paso, including positions at Levi’s, Farah, and Tonka Toys. She then devoted many years to the El Paso Independent School District, working at several schools, including Guillen Middle School, Bassett Middle School, Beall Elementary, and El Paso Technical Center. She retired from the district, enjoying her time with her beloved grandchildren and traveling to visit her daughter and family.
Cecilia chose not to marry, but she devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her daughter as a single parent. Through her unwavering love and dedication, she provided a nurturing and supportive home, ensuring her daughter had every opportunity to thrive.
Cecilia is survived by her daughter, Liza Ann Alvarez; son-in-law, Frank Alvarez; and her cherished grandchildren, Natalie Ann, Sofia Angelina, and Frank Anthony Alvarez.
A private memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Cecilia will be laid to rest in Denver, Colorado, a place she loved to visit through the last years of her life.
