Born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 30, 1954
Departed on January 6, 2019 and resided in Denver, CO
Gregg Ashbrook Howard was born on September 30, 1954, to Wesley Brandt Howard, Sr., and Olga (Gadeken) Howard in Omaha, NE. He lived in Omaha until 1981, when he met his future wife, Mary Ann Ehlers, in Denver (where his brother was living), and relocated to Denver.
He passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on January 6, 2019, in his home as he had hoped. He always maintained that he wouldn't move out of the home he loved until they carried him out feet first.
Gregg was an over-the-road trucker for many years, hauling "swinging meat" from Omaha to New York City every week. When he moved to Denver he continued driving trucks in the Denver area.
Following the birth of his son, Oliver Gregg Ashbrook, he retired to become a full-time dad, and never returned to employment outside the home. The birth of his daughter, Antonia Olga Marie, gave him additional duties at home.
Gregg was an excellent cook and many people told him he should open a restaurant. He preferred to use his skill to share his love with his family and friends by feeding them well. Many delicious meals were shared over the years.
Following their marriage in November 1985, Mary and Gregg purchased their home on 34 th Avenue in Denver in 1987. Over the years Gregg shared his know-how and tools with many neighbors and was a strong supporter of the annual block party. His pulled pork was always a big hit and Oliver vows to continue the tradition.
Gregg was a loving son who cared for his mother for several months while she battled cancer, a loving brother to his older siblings, Wes and Dee, a loving husband for 33 years to Mary Ann, and a most loving and proud father of Oliver and Antonia.
Although he would admit to being curmudgeonly on occasion, he is remembered most for his kindness and generosity.
He is survived by Mary Ann, Oliver, Antonia, his brother Wes, various nieces and nephews and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Step Denver, 2029 Larimer Street, Denver, CO 80205, 303-295-7837, stepdenver.org, or to a charity of your choosing.
