Juan (John) Bautista Arellano

May 2, 1922 - June 29, 2018

John passed away peacefully on June 29 ^th , 2018, at his long-time home in south Denver, with some of his loving family at his side. Lovingly referred to as "Pompo", John was born May 2 ^nd , 1922, in Questa, New Mexico, the son of Christobal and Cornelia Arellano. John enlisted in the Army at age 20. He remained steadfastly honored at having served our country during World War II and in being part of the Normandy Invasion. His entire family is so proud of this contribution to our history and our freedoms at the sacrifice of so many.

John married Rita Medina on August 25 ^th 1947, in Leadville, Co. and they celebrated 70 years of commitment before Rita passed away this last December 7 ^th , 2017. John worked in the mining and construction industries for most of his life, most notably helping to build the ‘Home State tunnel' in Leadville, Co. and expanding operations at the Climax Molybdenum Mine. John and Rita raised their children for many years in Leadville, Colorado before relocating to Denver in 1968: Diana (Victor) Gonzales (grandchildren: Karen, John, Lisa); Nancy (deceased at birth); Loretta (Greg) Robles (grandchildren: Gregory, Ryan, Gary); Leo (Dee Ann) Arellano (grandchildren Karrie, Jackie, Erin, Kaley); Paul Arellano (grandchildren: Ashley, Nicholas); Grace Parker (Bill) (grandchildren: Gabriel, Joseph, Maria); Janet (Al) Gonzales (grandchildren: Desirae, Rose, Raymond); as well as family adopted Damien (Grace) Lopez. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Arellano, daughter Grace Parker, son Gary and grandson Raymond Gonzales. John is also survived by numerous Great and Great-Great gra ndchildren whom he adored in addition to numerous nieces and nephews plus his sister Aurora (Gustavo) Rael from Questa, New Mexico, sister-in-law Ida Medina from Alamosa, Co and Vincent (Dora) Medina from Littleton, CO.

Rosary will be prayed July 10 ^th at 6:00 pm at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Mass will be conducted July 11 ^th at 10:00 am, Notre Dame Church, with subsequent full honors burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
