Robert Oscar Empkey "Bob" passed away in his sleep on June 9, 2019, at the age of 71. Although he had been battling chronic health issues for years, they were stabilized so his death was totally unexpected. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Cyndee; daughters, Tammy Clark (Chris), Heather Empkey (Matt Thorp) and Holly Empkey (Rhiannon Davis); brothers, Marvin "Pete" (Carolyn) Douthit and Kerwin "PeeWee" (Sereta) Douthit; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; mother, Bernadine; brother, Jerry Douthit; sisters, Katherine Barnes and Meldine Miller and grandson, Ramzey Thorp.
Bob was born at home in Vetal, SD on November 25, 1947. He was raised on a cattle ranch there but attended school in Cody, NE graduating in 1966 with letters in band, football, basketball, track and field. He also received an alternate appointment to the Air Force Academy. Bob briefly attended South Dakota MIT until he entered the Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. after serving for almost four years. Bob then moved to Denver, CO where he remained for the rest of this life. He married Cyndee on June 19, 1976, they missed 43 years by 10 days. Bob worked as a manager in retail sales and for equipment companies until his retirement at age 59.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman his whole life. He was a Life Member of the NRA. He lived for the fall hunting season and only gave it up a few years ago. If Bpb wasn't hunting, he was watching sportsmen shows and reading every hunting magazine/book he could get his hands on. Fishing, camping and four-wheeling were also high on his list of things to do. Bob also lived for football season so he could cheer on his beloved "Huskers". He will be missed by his family, friends and hunting buddies.
In lieu of flowers, Bob's daughters, Heather and Holly, have set up a memorial fund. The link is https://www.gofundme.com/f/robert-empkey-memorial-fund .
